• Present Perspective Project

    September 3-5, 2026 @ Dougherty Arts Center

This September 3-5, 2026, 8:00pm at the Dougherty Arts Center, Early Era Collective premieres “Present Perspective Project.”

Featuring work by long-time Early Era Artists Daniel Broxton and Jairus Carr, this dance production explores post-modern and street style fusion choreography that illustrates a journey from past to present. Our collaborative evening-length show interweaves a narrative about living, witnessing, and actively participating in the human experience through multiple sides of the story.

  • Delighted today and yesterday (Act I)

Delighted today and yesterday is an oddball work that presents an ironic anxiousness: an anxiety born from what we don’t understand and try to laugh off. Floppy, comedic movement establishes lovely relationships between the dancers, showing a genuineness that is dispersed and planted in a strange, absurdist world. We’ll travel through time, connecting the past to the present by way of small familiar narratives, a big headpiece, and Important Poses. As the opening work of our show, we will leave an imprint (as the past often does), lingering like a ghost.

“It is very possible that I will not understand this work. I hope that you will not understand it completely, but, rather, very much understand the emotional and compositional ups-and-downs and have an ambiguous outline of a story.”

    -Jairus Carr, Choreographer

    Reconstruction (Act II)

Reconstruction is an emotionally charged, intricate, color-changing work that focuses on deconstruction and reconstruction in motion. The second act of our show, this journey takes many paths, changing dance styles and music as our ideas evolve. Weaving fast-paced movement with breath and recovery, our cadence correlates with the pace of today, while carving out space for how we choose to build the future.

“The goal is to have you see what I see in the present world, and where I think we can go if we allow ourselves to rebuild something new in a time where everything is deteriorating. I want to have the tough conversations, but I also want to leave room for hope when the conversation is over.”
